The changes experienced by the field of genital cancer aetiology and prevention require a continuous effort of professional continuous medical education. This is usually complicated due to:

-Professionals' lack of time and availability to travel;
-Language barriers;
-Growing complexity of the subject including and involvement of different disciplines.

Communication Technologies and e-learning allow us to solve those difficulties to a great extent. They facilitate access to information in a space and time independent manner, and allow routine updates and content adaptation as new findings and results are produced.

In the last five years, the WHO/ICO Information Centre on HPV and Cervical Cancer: (www.who.int/hpvcentre) has developed educational materials including web-based e-learning tutorials (http://www.e-oncologia.org), multilingual international monographs and regional reports (Vaccine Sup. ICO monograph series 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009), slide collections and webinars summarizing scientific evidence on HPV. These materials are intended to support comprehensive professional education and cover areas of epidemiology, diagnosis, screening, vaccination and public health, as well information on critical advances in biological and public health research.

The platform provides direct, personalized and permanent service of teaching materials in multimedia format including an on-line program on Genital Cancer Prevention and HPV, based upon the contents of the ICO HPV Monogrpah program:

-35 hours of teaching materials in independent modules;
-Self-learning or Guided tutorial versions;
-English and Spanish versions.

To date more than 2,000 students have attended the course in Spanish.
